Suzanne Rinne, Executive Director
Suzanne joined Exceptional Senior Living in 2017 as the first executive director. With a three decade long career in long term care, Suzanne has served as the executive director of senior living communities throughout Louisville. A career as a licensed health care administrator was preceded by a career as a teacher in Indiana and Minnesota.
"Senior living became my second career after teaching. I enjoy all the ways I can help our seniors and their families. It gives me the opportunity to learn and grow as a professional through community involvement, membership in trade organizations, and physician and vendor relationships," said Suzanne.
Suzanne holds a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from Indiana University. She was actively involved in the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities board of directors from 1992-2008 and is a current member of this state association.
Karen Henson, Director of Wellness
Karen joins Exceptional Senior Living with more than 20 years of nursing experience. Licensed as a registered nurse, Karen attended the University of Louisville for a Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
In her two decade career, Karen has worked in both direct nursing care and in the MDS department in assisted living and skilled nursing communities. She most recently served as the MDS Coordinator for a Louisville senior health community.
Lucy Emmil, Memory Care & Activities Director
Lucy's expansive experience in senior care will serve the residents of Exceptional Senior Living well as she leads our memory care neighborhood and plans activities for all residents. As a Certified Dementia Practitioner, Nationally Certified Activity Director Consultant, and Eden Alternative Associate, Lucy know what works best to engage residents in activities so they can look forward to the day. "I can't wait to learn more about each resident and discover their interests so I can tailor fun activities and events that our residents will want attend. I have found engaging activities increase socialization and brings the community together like family," said Lucy.
In her career, Lucy has served in roles such as Director of Quality Life Initiatives, Activities Director, Resident Programming Support, Director of Memory Care Programming and Services, and Director of Resident Engagement for area senior living communities. She is a trainer and speaker on a variety of topics related to quality of life, dementia care and customer service, and she has served on committees from the National Association of Activity Professionals. She is trained on the Eden Alternative and as an Activity Consultant/Educator from the National Association of Activity Professionals. She has served on and chaired committees for the National Association of Activity Professionals and the Kentucky Council of Activity and Social Services Professionals.
She is currently a member of the National Association of Activity Professionals, National Certification Council of Activity Professionals, National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, and Eden Alternative Associates- Southern Region.
Drew Hemmer, Chef
Drew is not a stranger to the kitchen or to preparing elegant and delicious meals for seniors. Since 2008, Drew has served in the food services department at Franciscan Health Campus. Most recently, he was the Director of Food Service for the senior living campus where he had the opportunity to support 14 area centers.
"I have worked in healthcare for several years, but I have more than 20 years of culinary experience," said Drew. When residents, families, and guests have smiles on their faces after a meal and people ask for seconds or the recipe, Drew knows that he has been successful. "I look forward to going above and beyond at Exceptional Senior Living to give our guests an excellent experience at each meal," continued Drew.
